Large-Scale Earthquake in Pakistan and surrounding Areas
(Decision by the Government of Japan to provide Grant Aid in response to the Earthquake Disaster in the Islamic Republic of Pakistan)

- At 12:50 on October 8 (Sat) (Japan Time), a large-scale earthquake registering magnitude 7.6 on Richer scale occurred about 90 kilometers northeast of Islamabad, Pakistan. It caused more than ten thousand of injured and dead people.
- Taking into consideration rapidly deteriorating situation and increasing number of causalities in Pakistan and the surrounding areas, the Government of Japan decided to provide grant aid of 20 million US dollars for the disaster relief in the Islamic Republic of Pakistan on October 11 (Wed).
- The Government of Pakistan has already requested assistance for tents, blankets, food, medical supplies, etc. Mindful of such a request, constantly changing needs on the grounds, the Government of Japan will determine details of the Emergency Grant Aid.
