  1. The Government of Japan expresses deep sympathy on the demise of Mr. Zhao Ziyang, who contributed to the development of relations between Japan and China during his terms as premier and general secretary, and offers heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family.

  2. Mr. Zhao Ziyang made an official visit to Japan in 1982 during his tenure as premier.
