Dispatch of the Japan Disaster Relief Expert Team in Response to the Tsunami Disaster in Sri Lanka and Maldives

- On January 11 (Tue), the Government of Japan decided to dispatch a Japan Disaster Relief Expert Team composed of ten members (officials from the Cabinet Office, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, and JICA Experts) from January 16 (Sun) to the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka and the Republic of Maldives, which were struck by a devastating tsunami caused by the large-scale earthquake that occurred off the coast of Sumatra, Republic of Indonesia.
- The disaster caused serious damage to the infrastructure and other basic underpinning of the industries of Sri Lanka and Maldives. Japan has decided to dispatch the Japan Disaster Relief Expert Team in response to the requests from both countries and in light of the friendly relations between the two countries and Japan.
