Dispatch of a Second Japan Disaster Relief Medical Team in Response to the Tsunami Disaster in Sri Lanka

- On January 4 (Tue), the Government of Japan decided to dispatch a second Japan Disaster Relief Medical Team from January 5 (Wed) to the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, which was struck by a devastating tsunami caused by the large-scale earthquake that occurred off the coast of Sumatra, the Republic of Indonesia. The second medical team, following the first team dispatched on December 26, 2004, will be composed of 23 members, including an official of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, doctors, nurses and pharmacists.
- Japan decided to dispatch the second Japan Disaster Relief Medical Team, following the first team, to Sri Lanka from the standpoint of providing humanitarian assistance to the victims afflicted by the tsunami disaster and in view of the friendly relations between Japan and Sri Lanka.
