Signing of Agreement between the Government of Japan and the United Nations Environment Programme concerning the Northwest Pacific Action Plan Regional Coordinating Unit Toyama Office

- The Government of Japan, at a cabinet meeting, decided to sign the Agreement between the Government of Japan and the United Nations Environment Programme concerning the Northwest Pacific Action Plan Regional Coordinating Unit Toyama Office ("the Agreement").
- The signing of the Agreement will take place in the morning of September 16 (Tue) local time (Japan time: afternoon of the same day) at the headquarters of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) in Kenya between Mr. Klaus Toepfer, Executive Director of the UNEP, and Mr. Makoto Asami, Japanese Ambassador to Kenya.
- The signing of the Agreement will prepare a framework to establish the Regional Coordinating Unit of the Northwest Pacific Action Plan (NOWPAP) in Toyama prefecture. This demonstrates Japan's contribution to NOWPAP, an international effort to protect, manage and develop the oceanic and coastal environment in the Northwest Pacific region, and also Japan's initiative in the region.
