Japan's Additional Assistance to Countries and Areas with SARS Cases
on the Occasion of the G8 Evian Summit

The Government of Japan has decided an additional assistance of up to $6 million to countries and areas with SARS cases through the World Bank and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) in close cooperation with WHO, for the purpose of assisting the establishment and the implementation of middle-term and long-term countermeasures against SARS and of assisting educational activities regarding SARS.
Previously, the Government of Japan had extended bilateral cooperation totaling approximately $17 million as immediate actions to these countries and areas.
Thus, the Government of Japan will have extended up to $23 million in total for assistance in efforts against SARS.
