Japan-Egypt Joint Workshop for Medical Cooperation for Iraq

  1. Regarding it important to collaborate with Arab countries in extending humanitarian and reconstruction assistance to Iraq, the Government of Japan has decided to give medical assistance to Iraq in cooperation with Egypt and will hold a workshop from October 11 (Sat) to 14 (Tue) in Cairo and from 17 (Fri) to 21 (Tue) in Tokyo.

  2. Medical experts of Japan, Egypt and Iraq will take part in this workshop to discuss concrete trilateral cooperation, including the scheduled training of Iraqi doctors and nurses in Egypt. This workshop also includes Iraqi medical experts' visits to medical institutions.

  3. This cooperation was agreed upon between Japanese Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi and Egyptian President Muhammad Hosny Mubarak in May this year when the former visited Egypt.
