Statement by the Press Secretary/Director-General for Press and Public Relations, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on the Situation in Cyprus

  1. Japan welcomes the initiative of United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan to present on November 11 to both Greek and Turkish Cypriot leaders a proposal for a comprehensive settlement for the Cyprus problem.

  2. Japan supports UN Secretary-General's mission of good offices toward a peaceful resolution of the Cyprus problem and hopes that it will be peacefully resolved at an early date through dialogue between the two parties.
