Revision of the Requirements for Issuance of Multiple-entry Visas for Temporary Business Visitors of APEC (Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation) Members

January 28, 2002

  1. On January 28 (Mon), the Government of Japan decided to relax the requirements for issuance of multiple-entry visas for temporary business visitors of APEC (Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation) members to further enhance the movement of people within the APEC region. This measure will be implemented from February 15 on.

  2. The relaxation measures will be as follows:

    (1) Effective applicants for the visas will be broadened to "managerial personnels (equivalent of directors or higher)" or "full-time personnels who have been working at one workplace for three years or more", replacing the current "those who hold a full-time managing director post" or "those who have been in a managerial post (equivalent of directors or higher) for three years or more".

    (2) "The enterprises who have made both industrial and commercial registration and also taxation registration in China, as well as listed in stock markets of China or other countries and areas", etc. are added to the relevant Chinese enterprises.

  3. Japan, as a member of APEC, attaches importance to the promotion of people-to-people exchanges in the Asia-Pacific region, and expects that the measure will further facilitate such interchange.
