Dispatch of Electoral Observation Mission for the Presidential and Other Elections in the Republic of Peru

- In response to a request from the Government of the Republic of Peru, the Government of Japan has decided to dispatch from April 2 (Mon) to 11 (Wed) a three-member electoral observation mission to assist the democratic and smooth implementation of the presidential and parliamentary elections to be held on April 8. The three members are as follows: Mr. Toshio Watanabe, Regional Coordinator, First Latin America and Caribbean Division, Latin American and Caribbean Affairs Bureau, Foreign Ministry; Mr. Toshiyuki Suzuki, First Secretary, Japanese Embassy in Peru; and Mr. Yusuke Murakami, Assistant Professor, Japan Center for Area Studies, National Museum of Ethnology.
- During their stay in Peru, they will observe the election processes, voting and vote counting together with their colleagues from the Organization of American States (OAS), to ensure that the elections are fair and transparent, and carried out smoothly.
- Japan has already decided to contribute the amount of 200,000 dollars to the OAS, as part of the expenditure needed by the organization to observe the forthcoming elections.
