Statement by the Press Secretary/Director-General for Press and Public Relations, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on an Arson Case involving a U.S. Marine in Okinawa

- Today, the Naha District Public Prosecutor's Office indicted Marine Lance Cpl. Kurt Billie on suspicion of an arson case that took place in Kitamae, Chatan-cho on January 15, and the suspect was transferred to the Japanese authorities. Subsequently, a strict and fair judicial judgement will be made on the accused through a trial in court.
- The Government of Japan intends to do its utmost to improve the present situation involving incidents and accidents caused by U.S. military personnel, in concert with the U.S. military forces and the local governments.
