Statement by the Press Secretary/Director-General for Press and Public Relations, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on the ceasefire in Sri Lanka

The Government of Japan welcomes the decision of the Government of Sri Lanka to reciprocate the ceasefire by the LTTE.
The Government of Japan strongly hopes that the cessation of hostilities this time will contribute to creating the environment to facilitate peace process, and that the actual negotiations will commence at the earliest possible date in order to realize the collective will of the people for peace, which was shown in the General Election this year.
