Statement by the Press Secretary/Director-General for Press and Public Relations, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on the Situation in Cyprus

  1. Japan welcomes the agreement reached between the President of the Republic of Cyprus and the Turkish Cypriot leader to engage in direct talks on December 4 in Cyprus, in the presence of Special Advisor to the United Nations Secretary-General on Cyprus.

  2. Japan hopes that these talks will be successful and the Cyprus problem will be resolved peacefully at an early date through dialogue between the two parties.
