Pledge of Japan's Assistance announced at the Consultative Group Meeting for Cambodia
- Proactive Assistance for Reform Efforts of Cambodia -

  1. At the Fourth Consultative Group Meeting for Cambodia held on March 25 (Thu) and 26 (Fri) in Paris under the auspices of the World Bank, the delegation of the Government of Japan, headed by Mr. Seiji Kojima, Deputy Director-General of the Economic Cooperation Bureau of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, pledged assistance measures for Cambodia totaling about 140 million dollars (approx. 15 billion yen).

  2. The Meeting was participated in by 17 countries and 7 international organizations and there was an exchange of views on the macro-economic issues and the reform program, structural reform issues, good governance, and improvement of social services for the poor. The Royal Government of Cambodia, in particular, made a clear-cut commitment to implement various ongoing programs promptly. The participating donor countries and international organizations announced new assistance measures totaling about 550 million dollars.

  3. Since the late 1980s, Japan has played a proactive role in the process for peace and stability in Cambodia. As the Royal Government of Cambodia expressed its strong will for reform at the Meeting, the Government of Japan pledged assistance for Cambodia's reform efforts. The assistance will cover the structural reforms including forest conservation, Cambodia Veterans Assistance Program, and administrative reform, improvement of infrastructure, and health and education.
