Statement by the Press Secretary/Director-General for Press and Public Relations, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on the Withdrawal of IDF from Lebanon

  1. Japan welcomes the withdrawal of the Israel Defense Force (IDF) from Lebanon on May 24.

  2. Japan expects continued self-restraint and efforts by the parties concerned so that fighting will not be resumed in this region.

  3. Japan strongly hopes that the withdrawal of IDF will lead to the resumption of the stalled negotiations on the Lebanese and the Syrian tracks, and eventually to the realization of a comprehensive peace in the Middle East.
