Dispatch of Electoral Observation Mission for the Presidential and Other Elections in the Republic of Peru

- In response to a request from the Government of the Republic of Peru, the Government of Japan has decided to dispatch from April 3 (Mon) to 12 (Wed) a three-member electoral observation mission to assist the democratic and smooth implementation of presidential and parliamentary elections to be held on April 9. The three members are experts on Latin American studies: Mr. Shigeo Osonoi, Professor of Nanzan University, Mr. Yusuke Murakami, Assistant at the National Museum of Ethnology, and Ms. Chikako Yamawaki, Full-time Lecturer at Bunkyo University.
- During their stay in Peru, they will monitor the election processes, voting and vote counting together with their colleagues from the Organization of American States (OAS), to ensure that the elections are fair and transparent, and carried out smoothly.
- Japan has already decided to contribute to the OAS 200,000 dollars, as part of the cost necessary for the organization to monitor the forthcoming elections.
