Statement by the Press Secretary/Director-General for Press and Public Relations, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on the Inauguration of the President of the Republic of Peru

- The Government of Japan expresses its congratulations upon the fact that Dr. Valentin Paniagua Corazao was inaugurated as new President of the Republic of Peru following the procedures stipulated under the Peruvian Constitution.
- Japan strongly hopes that the political stability and democracy will be continuously strengthened under the new President, and that the transition of administration will be achieved in a peaceful and smooth manner through free and fair elections based upon the Constitution.
- Japan's policy toward the Republic of Peru remains basically unchanged. Japan continues to support democratization as well as promotion of economic and social development in the Republic of Peru.
