- Hurricane Floyd swept across the Bahamas from September 14 to 15, leaving great damage mainly in the northwestern part of the Islands. According to the Government of The Bahamas, there were two persons dead, 10 people missing, about 30,000 (about 10.7% of the population of 280,000) afflicted, several thousand houses totally or partly destroyed, many public facilities such as schools and hospitals damaged, electricity and telephone lines cut in many places, and agricultural land and crops severely damaged.
